Kharkiv became the capital of Bolshevist
Ukraine.
January, 6 The Provisional Government of Workers and
1919 Peasants of Ukraine established the new name
of Ukraine: The Ukrainian Socialist Soviet
Republic (USSR).
January, 7 The decree of the Central Executive
1919 Committee of Russia about spreading on the
territory of Ukraine decrees and orders of the
government of Soviet Russia on military
questions.
January, 16 The Head of the Provisional Peasant
1919 Government instead of dismissed G.
P’yatakov became Artem (F. Sergeyev). On
January, 29 by recommendation of V.I. Lenin
the government was headed by H. Rakovsky.
The provisional basis of the government was
reorganized in the permanent one. It was
named the Council of People’s Commissars.
January, 16 The delegation of UPR, headed by S.
1919 Mazurenko, after difficult negotiations in
Moscow (at the time of negotiations the attack
of Bolshevist troops at Ukraine continued), on
the 42-nd day of undeclared war on the part of
Russia, RSFSR officially declared war. In the
course of negotiations, Ukrainian delegation
agreed to “establish the power of working
councils with proportional representation of
workers and working peasants (Russia was
satisfied with the power in the form of
“dictatorship of proletariat”)… and ceasing of
