THE MAIN DIRECTIONS OF INTERNATIONAL POLITICS
IN THE WORLD. UKRAINE AND THE COMMONWEALTH:
PROBLEMS AND ACHIEVEMENTS.
The study and practice of international relations blends the
fields of economics, history, and political science to examine topics
such as human rights, global poverty, the environment, economics,
globalization, security and the political environment.
The strategic goals of Ukraine's foreign policy include European and
Euro-Atlantic integration, forming a relationship of strategic
partnership with the United States of America, European Union,
cooperation with member countries of the CIS (the commonwealth of
independent states) and GUAM, active engagement with the UN and
other international organizations.
The country is a member of the United Nations, the Council of
Europe, the OSCE, the GUAM organization, and one of the founding
states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
In 1992, Ukraine joined the Organization for Security and
Cooperation in Europe—OSCE, and became a member of the North
Atlantic Cooperation Council.
The European Union's Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA)
with Ukraine went into force in 1998.
All major political parties in Ukraine supported full eventual
integration into the European Union. The Association Agreement with
the EU was expected to be signed and put into effect by the end of
2011. The Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European
Union was signed in 2014.
Ukraine is included in the European Union's European
Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) which aims at bringing the EU and its
neighbours closer.
Relations between Ukraine and North Atlantic Treaty
Organization (NATO) started in 1994. Ukraine is the most active
