USING ROLE-PLAYS WITH NARRATIVE STORIES
Students role-play characters in a story they’ve read, using
several different variants. First, make sure the story has interesting
characters and is a story students have enjoyed.
1.Change the ending to the story or add to the ending. New
situations are created for the characters to speak within.
2. Pick an event in the story where there is a good dialogue
between the characters, and simply continue the conversation. The
creativity of the participants should keep the dialogue going. You
can also add a completely different character to the conversation,
such as a famous person or a world leader. This is a good post-
reading activity.
3.Another activity is to choose students randomly to play
different speaking characters of the story. Do this quickly to keep
the conversation going. The conversation should move from one
student to another. Students in the class will need to listen
attentively to understand the content of what is spoken. Try to
include all students at least once. The conversation can take many
interesting directions. You can also do this with the role-play
situations in this book.
