1966-1970 The eighth five-year plan, the so-called
“golden” five-year plan. Due to elimination
of the most obvious contradictions of M.
Khrushchyov’s voluntaristic policy and
partially to reforms of 1965 and favourable
foreign economic conjuncture, the economic
development of Ukraine during this period
became stable and grew to a large extent. The
industrial production raised by 50%, the
national income increased by 38%.
Afterwards, the rates of economic growth
went down again and reached negative values
in the 80-ies.
April Vyacheslav Chornovil published a
1967 documentary collection “Wit Works Woe”
(the portraits of twenty “criminals”) about
mass arrests in Ukraine. He published it
abroad (in Paris). In the book the accused
acted as prosecutors of the communist regime.
V. Chornovil was sentenced to 3 years of
imprisonment.
May, 22 Spontaneous protestation against ban to
