eastern Europe conquering various tribes, the
Antes including. As a result of their invasion,
nearly all Greek city-states of the northern
adjacent areas of the Black Sea ceased to
exist. The most famous ruler of the Huns was
Atilla, who conquered vast territories from the
Volga river to the Rhine river. His brother
Ellak was the ruler of the northern adjacent
areas of the Black Sea. In 451 Atilla was
defeated by the Romans and their allies, his
state decayed;
6th cent. The Avars:
1) they broke into the the Northern Black Sea
Littoral in 558. It was a tribal alliance with
Turkic-speaking tribes at the head. In the Old
Russian chronicles they are called the Avars.

2) after numerous campaigns and conquest of
the Slavic tribes, the Avars moved to reach
Balkans and up to the middle current of the
Danube river and set up the state of Avar
Khaganate stretching from the Elbe river to
Transcaucasia and the Don river. It did not
last long and preserved itself owing to the
military force only;
3) as a result of lasting Avarian wars, the
Slavic military-political alliance of the Antes
decayed. After the year of 602 the Antes have
not been mentioned in any historical sources.
