Slavic philosophy, which is characterized by “cordo-central line”
(philosophy of the heart). Prominent Ukrainian philosopher, enlightener
and humanist, the man of high morality connected anthropologic views
and pantheism in his creative work. Skovoroda propagated his wisdom
in the form of fables, poems and dialogues. This theme should have the
educational value for the students, because, in Skovoroda’s opinion, life
should be created, as a philosophic treatise, on the basis of humanity.
Dividing the thinkers’ masterpieces into certain cycles, we can observe a
great number of deep humanistic problems.
In the first cycle of his works (1767-1772) the author, analyzing
the theory of two natures of any “being”, emphasizes that the human
being cognizes, first of all his or her gender-nature and the principles of
humanism. The second philosophic cycle (1772-1774) includes the
doctrines about human happiness, general notions of morality and “the
principle of cognate work” as the thorough revealing of human skills.
The third cycle (1775-1780) characterizes the analysis of the symbolic
world as a special sphere of cultural “being”, valuable ideals of life. The
fourth cycle (1782-1784) embodies the philosophic credo of Skovoroda,
in which the “the three worlds” theory and the two natures is formulated.
It’s very important to work out in detail the definition of “the three
worlds”, that is: macrocosm (the big world) and microcosm (the human
being); the symbolic world (the Bible). Relatively each of these worlds
has a double nature – visible (outer) and invisible (inner), real being the
inner one, because it is true according to the “philosophy of a heart” and
a man. Sometimes Skovoroda is compared with the world figures and is
called “Ukrainian Socrates” his ideas and studies found its development
in the creative work of the major part of Ukrainian thinkers belonging to
the epoch of the Renaissance, Enlightenment and modern times.
