Edward hangs up the phone.
Natalia: Who was that?
Edward (to the Natalia): That was our contractor.(підрядчик)
Natalia: Is there any good news?
Edward: He sounded a little like a needle stuck in a groove.(жолобок; виїмка)
Natalia: What?
Edward: He sounded like a broken record.(зіпсута пластинка) You know, when they
try to persuade you that everything is fine and you should not worry, then you start worrying.
The telephone rings again in about 30– 40 minutes.
IT Director: Hi Edward.
Edward: Nice to hear you, partner.
IT Director: I'm calling to update you on the situation with our project.
Edward: O.K. Go on.
IT Director: We ran into certain difficulties but we managed to carry out nearly 90%
of the work. We stumbled on a couple of technical obstacles we had not foreseen. We have to
use a different approach to get the result we need. We are looking for another approach right
now. This is our first priority and we will find a solution.
Edward: Listen…
IT Director: We are a little behind schedule because of this glitch. It will take us 2…
er… maybe 3 weeks to solve this problem, but we will try to catch up and finish the work on
time. We keep pushing hard and we are moving forward. We will find a solution and you
should not worry about anything.
Edward: Thank you very much for updating me. Just in case, did we have this
conversation about 40 minutes ago or am I having deja vu?
IT Director: No, I have not spoken to you this morning. Are you kidding? I see you
are working hard too…
Edward: Yes, you are right. Well, never mind. I am having a bit of a rough day. You
know that this project is very important for us. I am counting on you. (важкий день)
IT Director: Everything is under control. You don't need to worry about anything.
Everything will be fine.
Edward: Listen, can we meet next week to discuss the progress in more detail?
IT Director: Sure. I'll call you on Monday.
Edward: I look forward to your call and for our meeting.
IT Director: See you soon. Bye.
Edward: Bye.
III HOME ASSIGNMENT
Task 5. Translate the following text into Ukrainian
Oil and gas fields are areas where oil and natural gas have accumulated under the land’s
surface. Oil and gas fields can also be offshore in lakes and oceans. Oil and gas operations drill
in these fields to extract oil and gas for sources of energy.
Oil and gas operations pose many health, environmental, and safety concerns. Health
concerns at oil and gas fields include air emissions of toxic chemicals, drilling waste,
radioactive waste, and contaminated water produced by drilling operations.
Oil and gas production can emit hazardous air pollutants, including benzene, toluene,
and xylenes. These activities can emit carbon dioxide and methane, which are greenhouse gases
that contribute to global warming and climate change.
Operations at oil and gas fields can also emit nitrogen oxides, volatile organic
compounds, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and particulate matter.
