2 Imagine that you are a representative of an operating company,
which takes several steps before telling the drilling contractor
exactly where to place the rig and start, or spud, the hole. Your
groupmates present operating personnel. Your task is to give
instructions to the working staff.

Stylistic features of oil and gas texts
Jargonisms are words with the aim to preserve secrecy within
one or another social group. Jargonisms are generally old words with
new meanings imposed on them. They are absolutely
incomprehensible to those outside the social group which has invented
them. Jargon may be defined as a code within a code.
Christmas tree – a term applied to the valves and fittings
assembled at the top of a well to control the flow of oil.
Doghouse – a small house on the rig floor used for keeping
records, storage.
To kill a well – to bring high well pressure under control by the
use of mud or water so that the well may be completed, etc.
