the new word. Do this with each of the new words until they have
all been replaced by 'reminding words'. Now ask the students what
each 'reminding word' was linked to. Write in the new words again
and erase the 'reminding words'.
Mistakes in reading
Listening.
Procedure: Select a text in the students' course book. Say that you
are going to read the text aloud and they should follow in their
own book. Add that you feel tired or haven't got your glasses and
might make a mistake: they must tell you if you do. Read to the
class, but substitute, add or omit words. The students should tell
you immediately. Thank them, correct yourself and carry on
making more mistakes.
Music
Writing and reading.
Preparation: You will need a tape recorder and a cassette of music
you like and you think your students will like.
Procedure: Play the music. Ask the students to write what colour
it reminds them of and why.
Invite students to read their sentences to each other. Ask one
or two students to read their sentences to the class as a whole.
Variation 1: Play the music. The students write what sort of
person the music makes them think of.
Invite the students to read their descriptions to each other.
Variation 2: Play the music. The students write what sort of scene
they imagine. Invite the students to read their descriptions to each
other.
