6 INTRODUCTION
To build a legal state and civil society in Ukraine, it is important
to form a new, higher level of legal awareness and legal culture of
population. Thus it is so necessary to get legal education. No society
could develop without deep knowledge of rights, freedoms, current
legislation. You can improve your knowledge of legal rights only
through professional and organized legal education by using the whole
variety of its forms.
The course "Science of Law" is a form of legal education for
students of non-legal professions. It is due to several factors: first, it
is necessary to form the adequate level of legal awareness among
students; secondly, it is necessary to teach them how to apply their
knowledge of current legislation of Ukraine into practice; thirdly, it is
necessary to develop their ability to analyse current legal phenomena
in Ukraine, public legal validity and legal processes.
Students should understand the role of law, its functions and
objectives, place of law among other social tools, know their rights,
freedoms and responsibilities, understand mechanism, scope and
methods of their implementation. It will help to overcome the legal
nihilism in our society, as well as facilitate the process of democratic
transformation. Only a person with legal sense is able to engage
actively in this process.
Thus legal education is the essential element in the education
system and important factor in the development of human
consciousness as the highest value.
The discipline “Science of Law” which consists of 90 hours is
the elective course of the university. It is taught in VIII semester
according to the curriculum of specialty 185 "Oil and Gas
Engineering". It includes a theoretical part (lectures) and practical
training (seminars). The seminars are designed to provide deeper
understanding of material, ability to implement the law within specific
situations.
The system of discipline "Law of Science" for specialty 185 "Oil
and Gas Engineering" includes such issues as basic theory of law,
constitutional, civil, criminal and environmental law.
One student can answer one issue at the seminar. His/her answer
can be supplemented by other students. Discussions are conducted
