a closer determination of the concept, and at the same time, it
shows the relation that exists between the new concept and its
origin.
Like any phrase terminological clusters depending on the
grammatical structure can be classified into 2,3,4 component
complex terms. І. M. Volkova, V. M. Leichyk consider that the
term length should answer its purpose to designate concept and to
allocate it from a number similar terms, that is to be optimal and to
provide ease of its memorizing and extensive use. Increase in
length of word-combinations predetermines certain difficulties in
use because of their inconvenience. Long word-combinations
mostly remain unchanged in the case they are seldom in use. If
word-combination is used quite often, it is usually subjected to
reduction by loss of some components that is by the way of
elliptization. However whatever reduction of term units often
predetermines infringement of one of requirements forwarded by
the modern language of science and engineering to a term – the
term appropriateness. Therefore the main task whilst rationing and
standardization of the Ukrainian scientific terminology of
whatever industry is maintenance of optimal length of the multi-
component term. The optimal term length is considered as such
which can transfer the basic features of a special concept.
It should be noted that all phrases depending on the
connection type are divided into coordinated and subordinate ones.
Coordinated term cluster consists of two or more syntactically
equal units which are combined into one group operating as an
entity. Subordinate terms are designed in that way that the
syntactic functions of its components are different from the phrase
functions as a unity. Such phrases are composed of main
component that represents the basic concepts and subordinate one
that makes it specific. The main component and adjunct may
belong to different parts of speech.
Depending on the grammatical connection complex terms
can be syndetic (prepositional) asyndetic (non-prepositional)
