damage was quite low due to this elevated pH and the protective
nature of the silicate. The drilling fluid systems, however, were not
very versatile and this, combined with rig safety concerns, ended
the fluid's first-use phase.
These fluids brought to the shaker screens "bit-marked"
cuttings from the drag bits. The fluids continued to fall out of favor,
and not much was heard about them until the late 1990s. They
resurfaced in several areas with different additive products now
available to allow a more versatile system.
