A FOOD AND SHOPPING TOUR
Preface
"A Food and Shopping Tour" is the fifth textbook in the "EFL
Topics & Beyond" series of learning culture through theme-based
content instruction for EFL minors. It is designed for Intermediate
students of different levels: low, mid and high. It can be used for Upper
Intermediate students as well. The readings cover the topics devoted to
various aspects of British and American life: food, meals, etiquette,
shops and shopping. and cross-cultural comparisons.
The text can provide ample material for reading and vocabulary
building, stimulate interest in various aspects of British and American
life and motivate discussions. The set of exercises will promote
acquiring language knowledge and improving communication skills.
Book Organization
The textbook consists of two chapters organized around central themes:
1. Shops and Shoppinng
2. Meals
Chapter Organization
Each Chapter consists of two Units:
1. Unit One: Vocabulary, Texts, Exercises
2. Unit Two: Fiction Reading
The chapters have similar structures. Each chapter contains a
vocabulary section, a number of readings that examine the topic from
different points of view, and exercises to supplement the readings and
exrtacts from literary texts by British and American writers.
Vocabulary
Both chapters contain extensive English-Ukrainian vocabulary notes
relating to a common theme. There are various set expressions that will
enrich the learners' vocabulary.
