4.3 General Terms and Conditions. The internal
combustion engine is a complex machine consisting of a large
number of different parts, the number of which may exceed
1000. Therefore, for the convenience of studying the structure
of the engine, assemblies and their operation, the parts are
combined into separate groups, mechanisms and systems that
differ in functionality.
As a rule, the engine's sprocket, crank shaft and gas
distribution mechanisms, power systems, lubrication, cooling,
ignition, start-up, regulation and other, depending on the type
and purpose of the engine, are distinguished.
The motor's skeleton consists of relatively dimensional
fixed parts that support or direct the parts of the mechanisms
and which affix the parts and aggregates of the engine. The
main part of the body is a crankcase, which houses cylinders or
a cylinder block with head (caps) of cylinders and in which the
bearings of the crankshaft are located.
When studying the backbone of this engine, pay
attention to how constructed the crankcase: from several parts,
or as a whole.
In high-speed engines, medium-speed cylinders are
usually combined into one block. It is necessary to pay
attention to how the cylinder block is made: without sleeves
and sleeves; how the cartridges are installed in the block. It is
also necessary to study the method of attaching the cover
(head) and the block of cylinders.
Crank mechanism provides a periodic change in the
volume of working fluid required for the implementation cycle
engine.
