Then, the gas-fired tube is immersed in a test tube

containing 2-3 cm of 0.5% potassium permanganate
solution and pass ethin through it. In this case, the violet
color of the solution disappears and a brown precipitate
forms, indicating the oxidation of ethin, which occurs by the
equation of reaction:

Since ethyne has a high percentage of Carbon content,
in the absence of oxygen, ethyn burns to a boiling flame,
which can be observed by burning ethyne at the opening of
the gas-duct tube. (Attention! A mixture of ethin and air is
explosive!)
The combustion of ethinium in a sufficient amount of
oxygen is described by the equation of reaction
2HC2HC СН + 5О 2 → 4СО 2 ↑ + 2Н 2О
2HC ≡ СН + 5О 2 → 4СО 2 ↑ + 2Н 2О

Pour 2-3 cm of benzene into a test tube and add 2 cm
of a 0.5% solution of potassium permanganate acidified
