Phoneme [l] - in its
pronouncing the tip of the tongue is
raised to touch the teeth ridge. The
sides of the tongue are lowered and
the air escapes through the
narrowings that are formed between
the sides of the tongue and the hard
palate. The soft palate is raised. The
vocal cords vibrate. There exist
several variants of [l]. At the end of the word and before
consonants there appears a “dark” variant of the English [l]. In
pronouncing the “dark”[l] the back of the tongue is raised. “Clear”
variant of [l] occurs before vowels and before [j]. The front of the
tongue is raised.
