servers, Internet backups, NAS, and/or SAN (Figure 14-12). A tape
library is a high-capacity tape system that uses multiple tape cartridges to
backup data. An optical disc server uses hundreds of optical discs to
backup programs, and data Internet backup facilities provide online
backup of data, information, and instructions. Enterprise storage systems
often use fiber channel to connect to storage systems. These fiber channels
can provide data rates up-to 4 Gbps. An optical disk server can hold
hundreds of optical disks that can store programs and data.
Enterprise storage systems can provide data-storage capacities of
185 TB or more. The use of SAN in an enterprise storage system can
create multiple paths to the data for faulttolerance.
Some significant benefits of the enterprise storage system include
high availability, disaster recovery, data sharing, efficient/reliable backup
and restoration, centralized administration, and remote support.
