Task 2. The Present Perfect Continuous Tense.

Subject Auxiliary verb Auxiliary verb Main verb

I have been waiting for one hour.

You have been talking too much.

                        It has not been raining.
We have not been playing football.

                        Have you been seeing her?

Have they been doing their homework?

                      II. MAIN PART

Task 3. Using the example below, form Present Perfect Continuous sentences using
                  the information provided.
                         Example:
                             - I was running 20 minutes ago.
                             - I am still running now.
                             - I have been running for 20 minutes.
                             - It was raining last week.
                             - It is still raining now.
                             - My mother was talking on the telephone at 3:00.
                             - She is still talking on the telephone now (5:00).
                             - The dogs were barking this morning.
                             - The dogs are still barking now.
                             - They were building a supermarket next to my house 6 months ago.
                             - They are still building the supermarket now.

T: And now let me tell you about where and when we use Present Perfect Continuous:

                         Unfinished actions
1: To say how long for unfinished actions which started in the past and continue to the
present. We often use this with 'for' and 'since' (see the Present Perfect Simple page for more
                  about 'for' and 'since').
                          - I've been living in London for two years.
                          - She's been working here since 2004.
                          - We've been waiting for the bus for hours.
This use is very similar to how we use the present perfect simple, and often it's possible
to use either tense. Of course, with stative verbs, we can't use the present perfect continuous.
                          - I've been here for hours.
                          - NOT: I've been being here for hours.

                                                                                                            58
