The Times Square Information Center of the City's Department of
Commerce and Industry is located in the centre of the Square at
43rd St.
ROCKEFELLER CENTER, from 47th to 51 Streets, west of
Fifth Avenue, is the world's largest privately-owned business and
entertainment complex. Its 21 buildings, covering 25 acres, form a
striking architectural group. Focal point of the Center is the sunken
Plaza which is used for outdoor dining in the summer and ice
skating in winter. Changing floral displays ornament the
promenade which connects the Plaza with Fifth Avenue. The Plaza
is dominated by the world famous statue of Prometheus and the
Prometheus Fountain. The flags of the United Nations are flown
on the esplanade around the Plaza. All buildings are joined by a
network of underground concourses lined with fine shops. There is
an excellent view from the Observation Roof of the 850-foot RCA
Building.
RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL, in Rockefeller Center, is the
world's largest indoor theatre, seating 6,200. In addition to a first-
run film, each presentation includes a stage show featuring the
Music Hall, Ballet Company and Symphony Orchestra.
MUSEUM OF MODERN ART, at 11 West 53rd Street,
exhibits modern painting, sculpture, drawings, prints, architecture,
photography, film, industrial and graphic design dating from
1880's to present.
CARNEGIE HALL, at 57th Street and Seventh Avenue
presents world's great orchestras and soloists. (Founded 1891).
NEW YORK COLISEUM, at Columbus Circle, is the nation's
leading exposition centre. Opened in 1956, it has 10 acres of
exhibit space on four floors.
COLUMBUS CIRCLE is the geographic centre of Greater
New York. In the centre of the Circle is a Memorial to Christopher
Columbus.
