a raised, covered platform that often forms the entrance to a house.
They can also be found on the sides or at the back of a house. A
porch will often have chairs or a large swing for people to sit on.

a building or group of buildings built through government funding
to provide housing for lower-income families.
rent control
laws set by the government (state or local) establishing how much
rent landlords can demand, and how much it can increase year by
year.
retirement community
a housing development for older people, where they can often live
independently but still have ready access to medical and other
assistance if necessary.
security deposit
the amount of money that must be paid in order to rent a property,
which is usually returned when you leave the property. The deposit
covers any damages to the property. Most landlords will not allow
you to use the security deposit as your last month's rent.
sublet
to rent a property from the person who rents it, especially for a
limited time.
super, superintendent
the person in charge of maintenance in an apartment building.
walk-up
an apartment in a building without an elevator.
