will not run on another. On the other hand, there are many different
models of processors within a single family. Each manufacturer
produces processors of ever-growing performance and complexity,
but the different models remain compatible at the ISA level. Popular
families, such as IA32, have processors supplied by multiple
manufacturers. Thus, the ISA provides a conceptual layer of
abstraction between compiler writers, who need only know what
instructions are permitted and how they are encoded, and processor
designers, who must build machines that execute those instructions.

Task 3. Do you remember the English equivalents of the
         following words and word combinations?
Грубо кажучи, ніготь на пальці, приводити в дію, зменшити,
побутові прилади, портативна гра, уявляти, послідовність,
компілювати, сумісні на рівні архітектури системи команд.

Task 4. Answer the following questions?
         1. What were processors in the past?
         2. What “families” of processors do you know?
         3. Can a program compiled for one type of machine run on another?
         4. Are different processor models compatible at the ISA level?

         PART 2

Task 1. Learn the following words and word combinations:
Sequential instruction execution, fetch, simultaneously, achieve
higher performance, an intrinsic value, inner workings, embody,
         hardware systems, commonplace, involve in.

Task 2. Create your own sentences using the above mentioned
         words and phrases.
