LABORATORY WORK №9
Characteristic reactions of organic
substances used in drilling fluids
The purpose of the work:
To study the properties and application of organic
compounds used in drilling fluids.
Reagents and equipment: starch, alcoholic solution
of iodine, feling liquid, 5% solution of calcium chloride,
10% solution of sodium hydroxide, sulfate acid (10%
solution and concentrated), 3% solution of soap, 3%
solution of detergent vehicle, Schweitzer reagent, 1%
solution of phenolphthalein, a set of test tubes, glasses,
cotton wool.
Starch properties and qualitative reaction
3
Pour 0,5 g of starch into a test tube and fill 4-5 cm of water.
The mixture is shaken and part of the resulting "starchy
milk" is poured into a glass of boiling water (20-30 ml). In
this case, starch paste is formed.
After cooling, add a few drops of alcoholic solution of
iodine to the part of the paste.
What are we watching?
The other part of the gel is boiled with a felted liquid, which
is a characteristic reaction to the aldehyde group.
