                     Classification of water depths:

                   < 350 M- Shallow water

                   < 1500 M - Deep water

                   > 1500 M- Ultra deep water

US Mineral Management Service (MMS) classifies water depths greater than

1,300 ft as deepwater, and greater than 5,000 ft as ultra-deepwater.

1.3 Largest Offshore Oil Rig Spills

Offshore oil and gas production is more challenging than land-based

installations due to the remote and harsher environment. Innovation in the offshore

petroleum sector is ocused on overcoming these challenges, including the need to

               provide very large production facilities.
