Oil saturation factor, water saturation factor and gas saturation
factor are used for conducting hydro- and gas dynamic calculations

and for estimation of the reserves of oil and gas in accumulation.

Units of measurement of oil, gas and water saturation factors are
per cents or fractions. Oil saturation factor, water saturation factor and
gas saturation factor is determined by means of Dean-Stark apparatus
or the device which combines the main parts of Soxhlet and Dean-

                  Stark apparatus.

7.3 Equipment, devices and materials. The structure of
the device and the principle of its operation.

The following equipment, devices and materials should be used
for the experiment: analytical balance; the rock sample; the device for

                  determination of oil, water and gas saturation of  rock samples (cores);

                  solvent (benzol, toluene); electric heater.

The structure of the device for determination of oil,

water and gas saturation of rock samples (cores) and
                                           the principle of its operation

The device for determination of oil, water and gas saturation

of rock samples (cores) (figure 7.1) combines the main parts of

Soxhlet and Dean-Stark apparatus. This device consists of glass flask
with the bulges 4, graduated glass trap 2, glass refrigerator 1 and
glass cylinder with porous bottom (Shott funnel or Shott filter) 3.

The principle of the device’s operation consists in extraction of
the core that is in washing water and oil from the core (which is
located in the mouth of glass flask 4) by heating solvent (benzol,

toluene) and gathering oil and water into glass trap 2 and
                  determination of their volume.
Water-, oil- and gas saturated rock is put into glass cylinder 3.
When solvent boils water evaporates from the core and with solvent

cools down in the refrigerator and flows down into the glass trap.
As water is heavier than a hydrocarbonic solvent then it
accumulates on the bottom of the trap. The surplus of the solvent

goes back into the flask. The toluene usually is used as a solvent.
                                                                         о
The temperature of toluene boiling (110 С) is higher than the same
of water. Oil saturation factor, water saturation factor and gas

saturation factor of rock is determined by the mass of rock sample
