2. When fuel is transported by railway it is transported in special rail tank cars. At

present rail tank cars, designed to transport oil products, are equipped with low

draining devices. Tanks destined for shipment of low viscous oil products are

equipped with the same devices. Tanks with heat insulation are used to ship high

viscous and easily freezing oil products. The capacity of rail tank cars may be from

50 to 120 tons. To determine the quantity of fuel in rail tank cars each tank has a

calibration table.

3. Small quantities of fuel are transported by railway in horizontal reservoirs,

rubberized-fabric reservoirs, steel barrels and metallic cans. While transporting by

railway the reservoirs loaded on flatcars are securely blocked at the end and sides

with wooden cleats and rigged to the loading rings with special multi-piece

strapping or wire. Steel barrels and metallic cans are shipped by railway in

ordinary freight cars. Barrels filled with fuel are loaded into freight cars in two

stories, whereas empty barrels - in two or three stories. A wooden lining is placed

between the stories. Filled barrels should be strapped to protect them against

movement and damage.
