How do you know which type of ventilation system is best for your
workplace?
All industrial ventilation systems, when designed properly, should be able to
provide long-term worker protection. The two types of ventilation, dilution and local
exhaust, are compared in the following table (Table 8.1).

In general, what are the limitations of any ventilation system?
Some limitations include:
1) The systems deteriorate over the years because of contaminant build-
up within the system, especially filters.
2) Require ongoing maintenance.
3) Regular and routine testing is needed to identify problems early and
implement corrective measures.
4) Only qualified persons should make modifications to a ventilation
system to make sure the system continues to work effectively.
