On the cathode two processes occur, in the cathode space the medium

becomes alkaline, and in the anodic one it is acidic.

Example 4. Electrolysis of the salt formed by a passive metal and a

               nonoxygen-containing acid

                                                                        anode.

               Electrolysis with an active anode

The anode, whose the material is capable of oxidizing during the electrolysis, is

called active. Active anodes are mostly made of metals. Therefore, during the

electrolysis anode material will transform into a solution.

                                                                       2+
                                                   Cu + 2 ē = Cu
               For example:

                              cathode anode

During the electrolysis with a soluble anode, the latter is gradually dissolved

and released in the form of free metal on the surface of the cathode. Such

processes are the basis of galvanoplasty (electrotyping) and galvanotechnique

               (electroplating).
