                                                  Nomenclature of oxides

The names of the oxides of the elements are formed as follows:

               For example: Sb 2O 3 – stibium (III) oxide, N 2O 5 – nitrogen (V) oxide.

The main ones are called oxides that react with substances of acidic nature.

Name of the element in the nominal case + (degree state) + oxide

Chemical properties of the main oxides

1 Interaction with acids forming salts and water:

                                            BaO + 2HNO 3 = Ba (NO 3) 2 + H 2O.

2 Interaction with acid oxides forming salts:

                                      CaO + SO 3 = CaSO 4, (SO 3 + H 2O → H 2SO 4).
