Comparative - consists in the fact that from different places of the message
choose a component that describes the same object, and compares whether these
descriptions are identical.
Specials - based on special editing rules:
- general (that are used irrespective of the type and genre of literature);
- sectoral (used only in certain types of literature).
While editing, the editor simultaneously controls various types of rules, but
if the message contains many errors of different types, then you should decide
what to do first. The sequence should be such that:
1. Provide the smallest number of fixes.
2. Eliminate the possibility of re-editing a piece of text.
3. Eliminate the possibility of correcting those pieces of text that can be
deleted in the future in general.
The methods of control should be used in the following order:
1. information ( to give the recipient only a new, valuable information for
him and as much as he can accept);
2. social (fixed in laws, statutes, codes, agreements);
3. compositional (to find out whether the logic of the composite message is
consistent);
4. logical (control of the truth of allegations, conclusions, classifications);
5. linguistic (those that are recorded in the spelling);
6. psycholinguistic (is in accordance with the psycholinguistic
characteristics of the message and the mental capabilities of the
recipient);
7. publishing (referring to the form of presentation of various components
of the message in publishing standards - footnotes, titles, etc.);
8. polygraphic (to set how to make and machine text and non-textual
messages).
There are also ethical, juridical and other editing standards.
