Unit 1
                                       The essence of the notion of editing the text

                      I. Read the following text.

                      The language serves all spheres of public life. In the process of historical

                  development in the language developed many different means of expression, which

                  are used differently depending on the purpose of communication. For example,

                  language  means  a  work  of  art  in  some  ways  different  from  scientific  work;

                  language means of business documents differ from the artistic and scientific works,

                  etc. The scientific and academic literature suggested a number of definitions of the

                  subject text editing including editing in general.

                         Thus, the editing is defined as:

                         1) preparing reports for publication;

                         2) processing messages in terms of its perception; transformation of

                  messages from the author level to the recipient level;

                         3) critical analysis of the text and assistance to the author in improving the

                  text.

                         Similar definitions could be continued, but none of them covers the entire

                  content of the concept. Literary language is a system of styles. The structure,

                  quantity, nature and value are changed with the development of society. The style

                  of literary language understood its variations, serving various spheres of public

                  life. Oral form of the literary language has only one style – spoken. In the written

                  language distinguish: scientific, official-business, journalistic, artistic styles.

                  Official-business style has substyle: informational, diplomatic, legislative,
                  administrative-stationery. The most important documents, that reflect the history of

                  the people, are written by it. This is the style of the country's constitution, laws,
                  regulations, statutes, programs, orders, reports and other business papers.

                  Documents reflect events, preserve memory over the years, linking the past with

                  the present. Texts in the official-business style must be meaningful, accurate. The
