Some nouns ending in - f or -fe are made plural by changing - f or -fe to -ves: beef -
beetres (яловичина, м’ясо), wife - wives.
Remember that the following form their plurals by adding - s: chief – chiefs, mischief -
mischiefs (6iда, лиxo), hoof - hoofs (копита), roof - roofs, grief -griefs (гope), safe - safes.
Some nouns have irregular plural forms: man – men, foot – feet, mouse – mice, woman -
women, tooth – teeth, louse - lice (воші), child - children, ox - oxen, goose – geese.
The following nouns have no singular: scissors, oats, tongs, trousers, pinchers, cattle,
shears, measles, mumps, victuals, tweezers, vespers (ножиці, овес, щипці, брюки, кліщі,
худоба, великі ножиці, кір, свинка, продовольство, пінцет, всеношна)
Some nouns are always singular: Іome of these nouns may be used in the plural when
diааerent kinds are meant as sugars, coffees, cottons: gold, silver, wheat, corn, copper, sugar,
cotton (золото, срібло, пшениця, кукурудза, мідь, цукор, бавовна).
