III. GRAMMAR REVIEW

Task 1. Transform the verb in the sentence from active into

passive voice. Mind the word-order and the tense of the verb.

                        1. The FG5 provides unparalleled accuracy and precision.
                        2. Surveyors have designed gravimeters to mount in vehicles,
                  including aircraft, ships and submarines.

                        3. The recombined arms of laser light can generate the
interference fringes which form the basis of the determination of
                  gravity.
                        4. Magnetic and electric fields affect less quartz springs.

                        5. Surveyors coupled a unique super-spring components to the
                  interferometer.
                        6. The super-spring provides seismic isolation for the reference

                  optic.
                        7. The super-spring component is removing the micro-seismic
                  noise from the measurements now.
                        8. Geodesists have already used an atomic rubidium clock to

precisely time the occurrence of the optical fringes.

Task 2. Give the short answer to the questions. Follow the
                        example.

Example: Can the measurements of gravity be simply achieved by
tracking an object as it falls? (+)

                        - Yes, it can.
                        1. Is the FG5 the most accurate method of directly determining
                  gravity? (+)

                        2. Does the FG5 comprise 6 components which are: dropping
chamber, interferometer, super-spring assembly, the laser, electronics
                  rack and gravimeter? (-)
                        3. Is the super-spring able to compensate for larger seismic

activity such as those generated from earthquake events? (-)
                        4. Is the reference Earth represented in the form of a level
                  ellipsoid? (+)

                        5. Does the actual acceleration of gravity vary fractionally from
                  place to place? (+)
