Belgrade, welcomed the film: “Someone needs to show that
Edison did try to discredit Tesla’s work. He spent a lot of money
trying to show that AC was extremely dangerous.”
William Terbo, Tesla’s great-nephew, who lives in New
Jersey, said: “Edison used his connections to ensure that the
electric chair would be adopted as a means of execution and to
ensure that it would operate using the AC system. He thought that
if he could show that the current was capable of killing a man it
would put people off using it.”
Tesla, the son of a Serbian Orthodox priest, was born in
Croatia in 1856 and emigrated to the United States in 1884.When
he arrived in New York, he worked for Edison, but his employer’s
refusal to contemplate the AC system caused them to part
company and led to their long-running feud.
Edison, lauded as the founding father of American science
died in New Jersey in 1931. Despite his many achievements, Tesla
died a pauper in New York in 1943.
This is not the first time that Edison has been accused of
stealing the glory from others.
“Tesla and Katherine”, which is being produce by Ljiljana
Bogdanovich, started shooting in June 2002.
