In a hair salon or spa, tips should again be 15 percent, with $1
to $2 for any assistants. It is not necessary to tip the owner of the
salon.
When staying in a hotel, it is customary to give $1 to $2 per
bag to the bellhop. Hotel guests should leave $1 to $2 a day for
cleaning staff. If a hotel doorman hails a cab for someone, a $1 to
$2 tip is again in order.
Other people who expect tips include anyone who delivers
food to someone's home, and basically anyone who provides any
kind of service, with 15 percent of the total being a good rule of
thumb to go by.
Do not, however, tip people such as plumbers or electricians
who fix things in your home.
