LESSON 10
              COMPUTER HARDWARE AND FIRMWARE

         PART 1

Task 1. Learn the following words and word combinations:
As distinguished from, be infrequently changed, copper circuitry
traces, in lockstep, act as traffic cops, CMOS memory.

Task 2. Make up your own sentences using words and phrases
         from the previous exercise.

         TEXT 1
                            COMPUTER HARDWARE
Computer hardware is the physical part of a computer,
including the digital circuitry, as distinguished from the computer
software that executes within the hardware. The hardware of a
computer is infrequently changed, in comparison with software and
data, which are "soft" in the sense that they are readily created,
modified or erased on the computer. Computer hardware refers to the
physical parts or components of a computer such as monitor,
keyboard, hard drive disk, mouse, printers, graphic cards, sound
cards, memory, motherboard and chips, etc all of which are physical
objects that you can actually touch.
Your computer hardware will consist of the devices within the
case of the computer itself, and any peripheral devices that are
connected to the computer (such as the mouse and keyboard).
The primary component of the computer is the motherboard (also
called the main circuit board, main logic board, mainboard, or
systemboard). The motherboard is a large printed circuit board with
microchips, connectors, and other components mounted on it, and
with copper circuitry traces that connect the components together.
A motherboard typically holds the following items:
