People have been living in Scotland for more than 7,000 years.
Scientists think that Scotland's first people were hunters and fishermen who
came to the land by boat. About 3,000 years ago tribes of Celts began
arriving from Europe. The Celts were strong warriors and often battle each
other for control of the land. About 2000 years ago, the Romans invaded the
island of Great Britain. The Romans took over the Southern part (now
England) but were unable to fight Celts in the north. To keep Celts in place,
the Roman Emperor Hadrian built Hadria's wall, a huge wall that ran across
the whole island. After about 400 years, the Romans left Great Britain and
many people and tribes battled to rule Scotland and England.
