measuring the coefficients of the absolute permeability of rocks
                  for gas and the absolute porosity of rock samples. The ranges of the

                                                                                       2
                                                                                 
                                                                                  12
                  permeability of rocks for gas is (0.005 – 3.0)×10 m ; the range for
                  the coefficient of porosity of rocks is 0.1 – 40.0 %. The error is 7.0 %
                  and 6.0 % for the coefficient of the absolute permeability of rock
                  samples for gas and for the absolute porosity of rocks accordingly.

                        The  automatic  permeameter-porosimeter  AP–608.   The
                  automatic permeameter-porosimeter AP–608 is applied for measuring
                  the coefficients of the absolute permeability and the absolute
                  porosity factors of rocks under the overburden pressure up to

                  67.6 10  6 Pa. The permeameter-porosimeter AP–608 is intended for one
                  sample of rock which is inserted by hand. The coefficient of the
                  absolute permeability of rock is measured by the method of pressure

                  release (according to Klinkenberg). The pore volume is determined by
                  a method which is based on the Boyle’s law. The device can be used
                  in the laboratories both with small and large requirements to the

                  volumes of core analysis.
                          Technical characteristics of the automatic permeameter-
                  porosimeter  AP–608 are following:

                  rocks is from 0.01 to 40 %;
                        the sizes of the rock sample (the core) are: the length is from
                  19 to 102 mm, the diameter is 25 or 38 mm;
                                                                       6                  6
                        the overburden pressure is from 2 10 up to 67.6 10 Pa.

                                      3.3 Equipment, devices and materials

                         The following equipment, devices and materials should be used
                  for the experiment: compressor, the GC-5 (ГК-5) device, barometer
                  and stopwatch. The GC-5 (ГК-5) device consists of the chlorine-

                  calcium pipe; thermometer; filter; core holder with the core (rock
                  sample); microreducer (control valve); manometer and gas meter. To
                  measure the atmospheric pressure barometer is used. The chart of
                  GC-5 (ГК-5) device is given in figure 3.1. Air comes to core holder 5
