18. SHOOTING
Two friends were spending a few days in the country. One got
permission from the neighbouring landowner to shoot in his parks.
As the other did not have this privilege, they could not enjoy the
sport together, and they were very sorry about that.
On the last day of their holiday, however, they decided to go
out shooting together. They enjoyed themselves for some time,
when suddenly they saw a gamekeeper hurrying towards them,
evidently with the intention of arresting them if they had no pass.
After a short conversation, the one who had the written permission
began to run away. The gamekeeper, seeing him run at once ran
after him, and, after a long race, overtook him. He was about to
arrest him when the man took out his pass and showed it to him.
The angry gamekeeper then turned round to return to his friend,
but the latter had disappeared.
