5. THE WAY TO PAY THE BILL
This happened recently in the little Japanese town of Sakai,
near Osaka. An armed robber broke into a jeweller's store, grabbed
the takings and rushed out.
Though he was barefoot and dressed in hospital pajamas,
the passer-by realized he was a thief and seized him.
He broke loose, however, stole a lorry, then abandoned it
for a taxi and told the driver to take him to the local hospital.
Then he got back into bed. Tracked down finally by the
police, he turned out to be a truck driver named Toshikazu
Moriuchi, who had been hospitalized since January with a back
ailment. He said he did not have the 690 dollars to pay his hospital
bill and decided to get the money by robbing a store.
