                                    Assignment to Chapter 2: Concerning Fathers

                           1. Find answers to the following questions.
                           1.  What does Bobby find in the man’s pocket?
                           2.  Who is the photo of?
                           3.  What does Bobby begin to worry about?
                           4.  Who comes to aid Bobby?
                           5.  Who is the man?
                           6.  Does Bobby make it to the service?
                           7.  What does Bobby tell his father?
                           8.  His father gets upset with him and says “…everything, however
                               solemn, however sacred, is merely a joke to your generation” (p.
                               11).  Is  this  true  for  Bobby?  Or  did  he  joke because he  felt bad
                               about it?

                           2. Pay attention to the following notes to understand the text better.
                             Apologetically (p. 8): to make an expression of apology, regret for
                               an action
                             Haunting (p. 8): to linger in the mind
                             Arresting…beauty (p. 8): very impressive, to catch the attention of
                             Circumstances (p. 8): physical event or series of events

                               thinking

                             Sacrifice (p. 9): to give up something of value for something else
